About Vaulra

Vaulra is a free envelope budgeting app for individuals and couples with granular privacy controls for shared finances, debt tracking, and credit card expense management.

Most budget apps are built for one person. Sharing is an afterthought. Vaulra is different. It is a personal and shared budget tracking system built on the envelope method, designed for individuals who want spending clarity and households who want to manage money together without giving up privacy.

The problem

When you share finances with a partner, a family member, or a housemate, you face a choice: share everything or share nothing. There is no middle ground. No way to say “share the grocery budget split but keep my personal spending private.” No way to give someone view-only access to certain categories while letting them add expenses to others.

People end up using spreadsheets, Splitwise for after-the-fact splitting, or they just avoid the conversation entirely.

Who Vaulra is for

Couples

Families

Manage household expenses together with per-member visibility controls.

Roommates

Irregular income

Plan month by month, even with irregular income.

How it works

You define a set of budget envelopes once. That structure carries forward to each new month automatically. Income is recorded, allocations are calculated, expenses are tracked against each envelope.

When finances are shared, each member sees what the budget owner has made visible to them. Data outside their configured visibility is designed to remain inaccessible.

Envelope groups

Organise envelopes into named groups like Housing, Food, and Transport for at-a-glance budget comprehension. Each group shows a summary of allocated and spent amounts so you can see your budget shape without opening individual envelopes.

When you create a new envelope, Vaulra's AI suggests the best-fit group based on the envelope name. You can accept the suggestion or pick a different group. Groups are fully customisable and carry forward each month with your budget structure.

Couple invite flow

One partner signs up, creates a shared budget, and sends an invite link. The invited partner completes a streamlined 2-step onboarding: they enter their name and preferred currency, then land directly in the shared budget. No separate signup flow, no configuration required.

Both partners see the shared budget immediately. Granular visibility controls let each person decide what the other can see: full access, read-only, or hidden per envelope, per person.

Debt-envelope linking

When you add a debt account, Vaulra automatically creates a budget envelope for it and shows whether your allocated amount covers the minimum payment. The coverage indicator uses green, amber, and red to signal whether you are on track, close to the minimum, or falling short.

Linked payments reduce the debt balance automatically. The budget coverage panel on the debt detail view shows your progress at a glance.

Credit card expense tracking

Tag any expense as paid with a credit card using the "Paid with" field on the expense form. Vaulra updates the card's debt balance automatically. No manual adjustment needed.

The card payment awareness widget on your dashboard shows each card's current balance, the amount you have allocated to pay it, and the gap between the two. You always know whether your budget covers your credit card spending.

Privacy and trust

Your bank statements are processed entirely in your browser. No file data is ever uploaded to our servers. Your budget data is stored securely and belongs to you.
